About the Role
- • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the Deaf Community.
•Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships; Possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of students and staff.
•Ability to work cohesively within the MDCC structure of best practices, policies, and standard procedures and to engage with MDCC program leaders as valued partners
•Native ASL signer and knows the Deaf Community and its culture.
•Excellent computer skills
Responsibilities
Responsible for all ASL classes having safe and healthy environments.
Makes recommendations to the MDCC Board members regarding materials and books that need to be ordered. Also brings new ideas or concerns to the MDCC board members.
Develops a basic ASL curriculum and weekly lesson plan that are age and experience appropriate.
Set up place/time and hire teacher for any requests that have ten or more students in a class.
Coordinates the interview and hire applicants for ASL teacher position. Ability to evaluate, supervise and find substitute ASL teachers.
Attends MDCC board meetings when scheduled (tends to be every three months)
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred; two or more years’ experience in teaching ASL classes.
Benefits
$35/hour or up to $1,400/month
About the Maryland Deaf Community Center
Maryland Deaf Community Center serves as a center for resources, services and community for over 1.2 million Deaf and Hard of Hearing residents. MDCC aims to build Maryland's first Deaf center in Frederick and the new facility will feature meeting and community spaces tailored to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.
